PublishPress GitHub Workflows
PublishPress’s shared GitHub Actions repository provides reusable build, test and release workflows for its WordPress plugins. My contributions extend beyond individual plugins into the tooling used to maintain and ship them.
Reusable automation for a plugin team
The repository includes PHPUnit and integration tests, PHP compatibility and coding checks, complexity analysis, dependency auditing, Free and Pro packaging, WordPress.org deployment, asset updates, language packs and changelog syncing. Shared workflows let repositories reuse a consistent process while supplying their own configuration.
My contributions
- Dependency security auditing: added a reusable Composer audit workflow to surface known dependency vulnerabilities during development. PR #5 ↗
- Code complexity checks: contributed a reusable PHPMD workflow to identify code that needs attention, with file and line information developers can act on. PR #10 ↗
- Deployment configuration: updated Free plugin and asset deployment to use Composer’s plugin-folder metadata for the WordPress.org slug, and aligned asset builds with dev-workspace. PR #14 ↗
- Dependabot triage: added configurable handling for lower-risk development-scope alerts, including a dry-run mode for reviewing decisions before applying them. PR #18 ↗
- Changelog syncing: added release notifications to WordPress changelog endpoints, then improved readable summaries and warning behavior so endpoint failures do not fail an otherwise completed release. PR #19 ↗ · PR #27 ↗
Maintaining shared tooling
I worked with YAML workflows, Composer metadata, plugin build tools and WordPress integrations. I also improved CI output so maintainers can see what ran, what failed and what needs attention.
